Organized by the Turkish Structural Steel Association (TUCSA) in coordination with the European Convention for Constructional Steelwork (ECCS), "International Symposium on Corrosion and Surface Protection for Steel" (CASP 2019) symposium was held on May 22-23, 2019 at LaresPark Hotel in Istanbul. The symposium was attended by experts from Germany, Czech Republic, South Korea, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Iran, Poland, Romania, the Czech Republic, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, the Netherlands, the UK and Turkey.
The conference, which was attended by three invited keynote speakers, included very interesting presentations on the importance of corrosion, its causes and prevention solutions, as well as presentations on corrosion caused by bacteria, which is of particular interest to refineries and pipelines. On the second day, Prof. Dr. Ali Fuat Çakır, Prof. Dr. Fevziye Aköz, Dr. Selçuk İz, Bünyamin Halaç and Berat Kemal discussed the corrosion of steel used in superstructure, infrastructure and marine environment starting from steel in concrete, the material losses caused by corrosion in our country and the precautions to be taken against corrosion in the panel chaired by TUCSA and ECCS President Yener Güreş.
At the end of this part of the conference, which was highly appreciated by the participants and they expressed that they were looking forward to the second one, President Yener Gür'eş stated the following: There is a need for the development of corrosion awareness and corrosion engineering in parallel with this, which causes a loss of over 50 billion dollars every year in our country. For this purpose, the Turkish Structural Steel Association will organize the biennial International Corrosion and Surface Protection for Steel Conference serinini ECCS, Genel Galvanizciler Derneği (GALDER), Çelik Federasyonu (ÇELFED) ve Türkiye Korozyon Derneği ile koordineli olarak sürdürecektir. Bu bağlamda, Mayıs 2021 tarihinde yapılacak uluslararası 2nd Corrosion and Surface Protection for Steel (CASP 2021) conference has been announced. Regarding the prevention of corrosion losses, the Turkish Structural Steel Association will continue to support and continue its efforts to develop corrosion protection implementation and inspection legislation, to increase the use of corrosion engineering in design and to increase trainings."
